Introducing my third G4-style MLP plushie, Firefly. Now, I know she doesn't look the way most people choose to represent her based on Lauren Faust's original character sketches prior to her replacement with Rainbow Dash, but frankly I didn't want her to be just a Dash recolour. So, out with Dash's spiky long mane, out with the wavy loose mid-length style she wears in G1, in with a rock chick quiff (loosely inspired by Firefly's brushed-up mane in 'Dash Academy' by 
), a Superman-style curled forelock, and a feminine plait at the back. Not to everyone's taste, perhaps, but I like it.
She is hand-sewn and made from minky, using the pattern by
as a base. Her eyes are embroidered, and her cutie mark is made from a Lycra-style metallic blue fabric that was a real ...'pain' to sew on (I have much stronger words for it, but I'll spare you them). Her mane and tail are a brushed aqua blue mohair (which unfortunately wouldn't take the dye when I tried to make a sample of it a slightly stronger blue - you can see the results of that in the strand I used for the curled forelock).
Most important of all, though, are her wings - I like to try something new and challenging with each plushie, and the wings were that thing. They are built around an extremely flexible but sturdy wire armature that I padded out enough that they wouldn't impede her cuddliness. With some extremely gentle manipulation, they can flap, bend, and rotate so as to allow for an approximation of the wings-folded-back pose (see bottom-right corner).
The removable collar was a last-minute addition, and one I will make neater in future (this is just a mock-up). The pin on my favourite badge on my cadet cap broke recently, but when life gives you lemons, turn them into an accessory for your new pegasus plushie (...at least I think that's how the saying goes).
The bottom image shows Firefly with my two previous plushie projects, Tealove and Cherry Jubilee. Up next is my first stallion (details in my latest journal post), but that shouldn't be for quite a while. I may complete a new cake design in the meantime, though!
